Turn a meal finished in seconds into a slower, more mindful experience.
Some dogs seem to spend the whole day waiting for their food bowl, only to finish everything before you've even had time to sit down.
Eating too quickly can mean swallowing larger pieces of food and excessive amounts of air, potentially contributing to regurgitation, vomiting or choking. A slow feeder for dogs introduces a small obstacle between your dog and their food: the internal rings encourage them to reach their meal gradually, naturally slowing down their eating pace.
The result isn't simply about "making your dog eat more slowly". It's about turning a meal eaten in a rush into a calmer activity that requires time and a little concentration.
And when a bowl sits in your kitchen or living room every day, appearance matters too: this one is handmade from natural clay in the Netherlands, with a minimalist design that makes it feel like a genuine part of your home.
Does your dog need a slow feeder?
It can be particularly useful if your dog regularly finishes their food in very little time, swallows rather than chewing slowly, tends to regurgitate after meals or approaches food with particular enthusiasm.
The rings create different paths for retrieving food, preventing your dog from taking large amounts at once. This naturally extends mealtimes while also introducing a small element of mental stimulation.
For dogs that are highly motivated by food, mealtime becomes less about finishing everything as quickly as possible and more about a small activity that requires concentration.
This slow feeder is also a useful tool for puppies learning good eating habits and for dogs with long ears.
Why choose a ceramic slow feeder?
Many slow feeders are made from lightweight plastic. This one takes a different approach.
Ceramic gives the bowl weight and stability, making it particularly pleasant to use and to keep on display. The glazed surface is easy to clean, and the bowl is dishwasher safe.
Each piece is shaped by hand from natural clay, glazed and fired using traditional techniques in the Netherlands. Small variations in shape, colour or finish are therefore not defects, but the result of a handmade process that makes every bowl slightly different.
How to use it
You can use it with your dog's regular food: no special treats are needed for the slow feeder to work.
With dry food
Spread your dog's usual portion between the rings rather than pouring it all into one spot.
Your dog will need to retrieve the food gradually, extending mealtime without increasing the amount they eat.
With wet food
Spread the food into the spaces using a spoon.
You can use part or all of your dog's regular portion, turning an everyday meal into a slower, more engaging activity.
For a treat or an enrichment activity
You can also use the slow feeder between main meals with small amounts of soft foods that are suitable for your dog's diet.
You could try: plain unsweetened yoghurt, mashed ripe banana, cooked and mashed pumpkin or sweet potato without seasoning, mashed hard-boiled egg, blueberries, small pieces of strawberry, or a small amount of 100% peanut butter (without sugar or xylitol).
You can use a single ingredient or combine small amounts in the spaces between the rings, creating different textures and flavours for your dog to explore.
Avoid foods containing salt, added sugars, spices or sweeteners, and never use ingredients that are toxic to dogs, such as chocolate, grapes and raisins, onions, garlic or products containing xylitol.
If your dog follows a specific diet or has allergies or digestive sensitivities, only use foods that are already suitable for them.
Choose the right size
Medium – approximately 16 × 5 cm
Two internal rings. Suitable for small and medium-sized dogs or smaller food portions.
Large – approximately 20 × 5.5 cm
Three internal rings and a larger feeding surface. Better suited to medium and large dogs and more generous portions.
Measurements may vary slightly because each bowl is handmade.
Materials and Production
The slow feeder is handcrafted from natural clay with a glazed finish.
Each piece is shaped by hand in a small atelier in the Netherlands. The process includes drying, high-temperature firing, glazing and a second firing. The complete production process takes several weeks, and each bowl is fired at temperatures of up to approximately 1280°C.
